Our team firmly believes in providing comprehensive oral care for our patients. Maintaining a healthy smile is very much rooted in preventative measures. Therefore, we always perform oral cancer screenings during your professional dental visits as a courtesy to all our patients.

What is an Oral Cancer Screening?

An oral cancer screening is a quick and painless examination of your head and neck area to detect any signs of cancerous or precancerous conditions. In less than five minutes, we can thoroughly assess your cheeks, tongue, gums, and rest of the oral cavity to put your mind at ease or encourage further testing. We also use Velscope to complete our Oral Cancer Screening.

What are the indicators?

Oral cancer may come in many forms that often go unrecognized by patients. That’s why we strongly encourage you to schedule an appointment if you see or suspect any of the following:

Chronic sores
Ongoing oral pain
Lumps or thickening on soft tissue
White or red patches on the cheeks, tongue, gums, or tonsils

Our team at Family Dentistry Group believes that every patient, especially those who regularly drink, smoke, or use tobacco products, should get an oral cancer screening during every visit. With early diagnosis, you have a better chance at removing the short and long-term dangers of oral cancer.
